Fashion brand. Ted Baker, has announced its plans to shut all of its UK stores before the end of this month.

Prior to its collapse earlier this year, Ted Baker employed just under 1,000 employees across 46 stores within the UK. It has been rumoured that high-street shop ‘Next’ could become the next partner to run Ted Baker online, in the UK and in Europe. This comes after House of Fraser removed themselves from early rescue discussions with the fashion brand.

15 stores have already been closed across the UK, which has resulted in 245 job losses. An email, which was sent to the staff who were to lose their job stated ‘We want to emphasise again that this outcome is no reflection of the amazing work and support you have provided these last four months.’

The brand was originally created in 1988 by Ray Kelvin, and is known for its bright colours and floral patterns on clothes, shoes and accessories. Ray Kelvin left as Chief Executive in 2019 amid complaints from employees surrounding a forced culture encouraged by Kelvin that involved ‘forced hugs’ and claims that he had kissed employees’ ears.

Despite closing its individual UK stores, Ted Baker plans to continue sales through larger department stores including House of Fraser, and John Lewis.
