Chris Brown filed a defamation lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery (‘WBD’) on January 21st following from their 2024 docu-series titled ‘Chris Brown: A History of Violence’.
The suit states that WBD ‘promoted and published false information in their pursuit of likes, clicks, downloads and dollars’ against the knowledge that it was ‘full of lies and deception and violating basic journalistic principles’. The rapper is subsequently seeking $500 million in damages. Brown continues that the defamation has caused him emotional distress.
The lawsuit named a number of the docu-series’ producers as defendants, including production company Ample Entertainment. It primarily focuses on three defamatory sections;
One Jane Doe accusing Brown of raping her, the statement made in the series that the rapper has a ‘predisposition for punching women in the face’, and finally the imputation that the singer ‘manipulated or deleted text messages when he gave them to the Miami Police Department’ at the time of the investigation in relation to the Jane Doe accuser.
The filing continues to state that ‘this case is about the media putting their own profits over the truth. They did so after being provided proof that their information was false, and their storytelling ‘Jane Doe’ had not only been discredited over and over but was in fact a perpetrator of intimate partners violence and aggressor herself.’ It continues to read ‘Mr. Brown has never been found guilty of any sex related crime…but this documentary states in every available fashion that he is a serial rapist and sexual abuser.’
The Jane Doe claims the rape took place on P Diddy’s boat in 2020 following Brown allegedly drugging and assaulting her. However, Brown’s filing states that Jane Doe’s case against him was dismissed as she ‘completely disregarded the facts in an attempt for fame and fortune
The claim states that the ‘Defendants acted for the purpose of causing Brown to suffer severe emotional distress and are guilty of malice, oppression and fraud.’ It continues to state that ‘Mr. Brown has never been found guilty of any sex related crime (rape, sexual battery, sexual assault, etc.) but this documentary states in every available fashion that he is a serial rapist and sexual abuser.’
