10 branches of WHSmiths to close

Following the announcement that WHSmiths were in negotiations to sell their high street operations back in January, a further announcement has been made that 10 branches will be closing down permanently in 2025. 


Eight branches had already been shut down including in Manchester and Scotland. The retailer has now placed roughly 500 stores up for sale.


The following stores are those which are due to close in the coming months and when;


  • Accrington, Lancashire – March 15

  • Halstead, Essex – April

  • Halesowen, West Midlands – April

  • Diss, Norfolk – April

  • Newport, Wales – April

  • Haverhill, Suffolk – April 26

  • Woolwich, London – April

  • Stockton, County Durham – May

  • Oldham, Greater Manchester – May

  • Orpington, Greater London – no date given yet
